Our life as a homeschooling Family in the land of Aus :)

When I can, I hope to come here and keep a journal or the likes about our daily life as a homeschooling family in Australia. For anyone that reads further than this, please don't judge too harshly or take our word as gospel. We're just people trying to live life as best we can without getting in the way of others wanting to live theirs :)

Mel's Blog

First I had breakfast and then it was school time. I did four pages in each of my school books and then when I was finished I went back inside and my brother was watching TV and then mummy said to Matthew 'it's your turn to do science' and then she asked me 'can you please look after Tabitha while I'm doing science with Matthew?' I said 'yes' and then I said 'is it on the trampoline?' and mummy said 'yes' so then I went downstairs on the trampoline and then I looked after Tabitha on the trampoline and then I was getting hot so then I called mummy I said 'I'm getting off the trampoline can you come get Tabitha?' and then she said 'OK' and then I went back upstairs and when I looked at Matthew he was doing his science experiment which was good that he loves to do with crystals because he loves crystals. Then I had to play with Tabitha again while Matthew did his experiment and we did some pictures but Tabitha did some scribbles because she's 1yr old. Then we made the picture but it was full of scribbles by Tabitha and then but Tabitha didn't really like it, she chucked it and scrunched it because she didn't understand it. I wish she could walk so I could play with her because sometimes my brother is naughty to me.

Mummy put Tabitha to sleep and then I heard a knock on the door 'knock, knock' and when I opened it I saw the dog clipper to clip Charli and then we sayed hello to her we knew her because she comes sometimes and then she took her into the dog clipper place and then I asked if I can help and she said 'we'll see' and then she started so I went in the trailer with Charli and the dog clipper and then I said 'can I help' and she said 'yeah, sure' and then she brushed Charli and she was starting to cut her hair and then I said 'can I sweep the hair off?' and she said OK and then Matthew said 'do you want a sausage sizzle?' and then I said OK and then Matthew told mummy and then I still went there with Charli...ummm...mmm...think, think, think, think, think...then I asked mummy if it was ready and she said after I have lunch and I said OK and I went back downstairs to go with the clipper dog and then I kept sweeping the hair off and then I thought of an idea but first I had to eat lunch and then I put the rest of my sausage I didn't want in a bowl for Charli when she was finished, I thought 'that will be a nice surprise for her when she's finished her clipping'. I then cleaned her teddy toy so it would be nice and clean and shiny and then she was finished. I was right on time 'phew'. so then i said 'bye bye' and I gave Charli her sausage and then she was very happy and then I went back upstairs and that's all.

The End.

Holiday Time :)

The kids are up visiting their grandparents on their cattle property. They're staying there for a whole week! I'm already missing them, spoke to them tonight and they're having a ball :)

So far they have already been swimming twice; played tennis; went looking for rocks (Mat is right into rocks at the moment); rode their bikes; fed the chickens; spotted some cows; played PS2 and helped nana in the fern house with her vegie garden.

They'll be visiting their cousins on one of the days and nana and grandpa are also taking them to their beach house...so I'm pretty sure they won't be missing me lol!!!

Tabs is enjoying the one on one time with me and daddy while her big bro and sis are galavanting hehe :)

Free Fridays ;)

Today is our day with nana (my mum). Generally we go shopping and out for lunch. I was really happy that the kids off their own bat asked for some multiplication sums today while driving in the car :o Mel has just figured out how to multiply so is really keen with anything to do with it. I was really happy to see that especially from Mat as he diverts from anything 'school' like no tomorrow but here we were driving while learning maths :) anyway another great thing I noticed today was when I took them to timezone games, they went to collect their prizes Mat had 30 points left to spend and he asked for 2 lollies that were worth 15 points each!!! he knew 2 x 15 = 30 :)

Below are some pics of the kids the other day. Mat & Mel decided to cook chocolate cake and Tabs loves spending time with her bestest buddy :)

I made the cupcakes with my own reciepe :)

I made the giant cake in the middle and my brother helped decorate it with me :)

You should never neglect your teeth :p she only has two lol but loves her toothbrushes :)
Edited to add: I forgot to mention our trip to the dentist on Thursday was all good :) a little bit of plaque but no holes for any of us so we're clear for another 6mths :) I actually think it's a good time span to get a professional clean as it's proven so far that the plaque hasn't caused any damage within this timeframe and they can just clean it away :) no drilling or extracting :o :p

Art Class is always lots of fun :)

They continued again this morning with their search for treasures in the backyard, though this time it was for gold :p they stayed down there pretty much until it was time to go to art class :)

Lately we've been blessed to be a part of a group of families who get together once a week for a couple of hours for the kids to learn art and have a bit of fun. This time the kids got to create a 'Torn paper sea scene'

Mat said the best part was making the torn scrape paper sea

They used scrap paper, craft glue, oil pastels, tissue paper, goggle eyes, dye, spongebrush, glitter, glue stick, cartridge paper and a dolphin template.

Mel thought it was fun to enhance the detail of the painting with craft glue and sprinkle glitter.

Today they were also presented with their tennis trophies for the term. Every term they compete in fixtures alongside their tennis friends. They play 3 matches every week and the score is tallied and at the end of the Term the highest 3 scores recieve a trophy.

Mel 1st, Mat 2nd and B 3rd
They've been playing tennis now for 4yrs and still loving it :)
Last night Mel went on the computer and played on smartkiddies a maths website here in Oz land. Maths seems to come naturally to her and she really loves it. Mat loves the fact that the more they do on this website the more fun they get to have creating different virtual areas. At first they decorate their online bedroom, then they get to build a cubby house and then decorate the cubby house. As well they have an alien that grows from an egg :}and the more you play on the site the older this alien gets :]

I'll think of better titles as we go along ;)

This is really just to keep track of my homeschooling family life so that I can look back and see all the great stuff we got up to along with the ups and downs of living in one anothers pockets :p

Anyway, too much to say to try catch up so will just start from today and things will eventually make sense I'm sure ;) by the way I love using emoticons so don't be surprised if you see a few more than normal :)

Today the kids woke at the break of dawn and raced back down the backyard to continue their excavation of our backyard in the search for more diamonds :p they found one yesterday (maybe a bit of glass, but I'm not going to spoil their fun). I'll try upload some pics of their workings.

Mel writing down how many gems they have found so far with their excavation

Mat drilling a hole to find more diamonds ;)

They've put a tarp up to keep the rain out

Just finding our way

Homeschooling is new to us so it's paramount on my mind. It has been roughly a term since my children have
